Hedgehog Jerzy was born in September 1994, and this is the way it happened...
Seventeen-year-old Rafal Skarzycki was reading a Gordon Dickson's book "The dragon and the George" which bored him a lot. To get over he wrote a scenery of a comic under the same title (in Polish George is Jerzy), but telling the story of adventures of a brave hedgehog. Rafal showed the scenery to his school-mate Tomasz Lew Lesniak, who draw the comic. Tomasz encouraged Rafal to write next parts of the story, although at first he did not planned it. The comic was to be published in the school newspaper, but in November 1994 on the Popular Science Session in Cracow "The comic in Poland", Mr Maciej Malicki, the editor-in-chief of "Kelvin i Celsjusz", suggested printing it in his magazine. Rafal and Tomasz created 17 parts but they did not appear in "Kelvin i Celsjusz" because the paper went bunkrupt. Now we can see them in "Qriozum".
However the authors did not give up and finally the editor-in-chief of "Swierszczyk", Mr Grzegorz Kasdepke, decided to publish the comic. It has appeared in the magazine since January 1996. We can also see it every month in "Slizg", furthermore it was printed in "AQQ", "Komiks Forum" and "Czas Komiksu". In February 1998 "Piate pietro" publishing house edited a book "Hedgehog Jerzy for children", in which we can read all parts of the story from "Swierszczyk" and a tale written specially for the book.
The brave hedgehog has two different natures. In "Slizg" our hero tirelessly fights with skins, the stories are full of blood, violence and swearwords. The comics printed in "Swierszczyk" are definitely much more gentle. But all of them can make you laugh with its purenonsense humour. The authors play with the reader - they draw him into the action, suddenly stop and add an unexpected punchline. Skarzycki and Lesniak very often occur in their comics. Also well known Polish politicians appeared together with hedgehog Jerzy.
Until today one hundered stories about adventures of the nice hedgehog have been created. The authors plan to write a long story to be published in the next album. Rafal wrote a scenary of a play on the basis of his comic, but they do not have enough money to make the plans and dreams real.
