Rosinski
The birth

The first part of the story about Thorgal Aegirsson appeared in "Tintin" magazine in 1977 achieving a great success. Rosinski had already drawn comic books for Polish editors for many years, Van Hamme had written many comics and film scenarios and few adventure stories as well. At the beginning they planned to create only one story about Thorgal, but because of the popularity of the first book they decided to continue. The first album - "The Sorceress Betrayed" - appeared in Belgium in 1980.

The idea

The tale takes place in the legendary times, when world of gods and world of men were very close to each other. According to Van Hamme's idea Thorgal was to be a "pure man" with human feelings and matters, contrary to a superman who often appeared in comics. Because of the above comic has a great influence on the reader and owing to incredible Van Hamme's imagination does not let him to get bored.
Every album has a different atmosphere: fantasy, western, myth, horror, science-fiction, but only together they are a whole story so you have to read all of them.

Thorgal in Poland

Fans of Thorgal from Poland met him for the first time in 1978 in the nineteenth issue of "Relax". "The Sorceress Betrayed" was published for few months and then "the child of the stars" has left us for ten years. In 1988 KAW edited the first part of the story as an album and in a new translation. Soon appeared also "Island in the Ice". A year later a new publisher called "Orbita" started to publish next parts of the tale. In a very short time another new editor - "Korona" - shocked the readers with an exclusive issue of seventeenth art of "Thorgal" entitled "Key Wardress". Despite the high price comic disappeared in no-time and today its price fetches 100 PLN. Next "Korona" decided to edit first two parts of the series, which earlier had been published by KAW and "Orbita". Unfortunately these albums did not sell well and "Korona" went bankrupt; soon after that also "Orbita" crashed.
In 1994 Egmont Polska raised our hopes for regularly published parts of the tale about Thorgal editing "Sunny Sword", and year later "Invisible Fortress". And this was the end cause, as the editor states, the comic did not sell well. But the real reason of the limited sale was the poor distribution - in many cities and villages in Poland the comic did not appear at all.
Commitment and obstinacy of Tomasz Kolodziejczak changed the situation. In 1998 he established "Swiat Komiksu" magazine and one year later - "Klub Swiata Komiksu" ("World of Comic Club"), which started to publish comic albums, including "Thorgal". Till now "The Stigma of the Outlaws", "Ogotai's Crown" and "The Giants" have been published. "Egmont Polska" makes a plan to publish all the parts of "Thorgal" to the end of 2000.

What next?

Adventures of Thorgal Aegirsson found a great approval and success and made Rosinski one of the most popular European drawers of comics. The comic was translated into 40 languages. In the Western Europe parents named their children: Thorgal, Aaricia, Jolan. Some day we may also see a film about Thorgal cause few scenarios based on the comic were created. Authors of "Thorgal" promised to write three albums every two years and so far they keep what they promised.
